2024: The Year of Renfrow Hall

2024 opened with the publication of Monique Shore’s illustrated children’s biography, No one is better than you: Edith Renfrow Smith and the power of a mother’s words.

On January 30, a topping ceremony for Renfrow Hall marked the completion of the skeleton of the residence hall. Attendees inscribed the final beam before it was hoisted into position.  Below are pictures showing Feven Getahew '24, Dr. Beronda Montgomery (Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College), Dr. Tamara Beauboeuf-Lafontant, President Anne Harris, and Mayor Dan Agnew.

As we thought about Grinnellians whose lives and accomplishments … have served as a positive and undaunted inspiration to others – it quickly became clear that Edith Renfrow Smith was that alumna.  As Renfrow Hall will reside in a space that connects the City of Grinnell and the College, it will do so carrying the name of the truest of true Grinnellians.
